श्री महालक्ष्मी दिनदर्शिका चे संस्थापक दिवंगत श्री दत्तात्रेय नामदेव शिर्के उर्फ डी एन शिर्के हे चित्रकला छायाचित्रण आणि ज्योतिषशस्त्रात अष्टपैलू पुरुष होते. डी एन शिर्के हे एक व्यावसायिक कलाकार आणि छायाचित्रकार होते. अगोदर त्यांनी कोल्हापूर या शहरात रबर स्टॅम्प बनवण्याचा व्यवसाय सुरू केला. नंतर त्यांना सामान्य माणसाला सहजपणे समजेल अशा पद्धतीने जटिल पंचांग माहिती असलेले पंचांग प्रकाशित करणे ही कल्पना त्यांना सुचली. अशाप्रकारे त्यांनी 1994 मध्ये M/S D.N. Shirke & Sons या नावाने वार्षिक पंचांग प्रकाशित केले. हे पंचांग कमी वेळात कोल्हापूर, सातारा, सांगली आणि बेळगाव या भागात प्रचंड लोकप्रिय झाले. दत्तात्रय शिर्के त्यांच्यासोबत त्यांची मुले म्हणजे श्रीपाद जयवंत आणि सदाशिव हेसुद्धा या पंचांग च्या व्यवसायात काम करत होते. त्यांनी पहिल्यांदा त्यांच्या वडिलांनी 1944 मध्ये प्रकाशित केलेल्या पंचांगाची सुधारित आवृत्ती 1977 मध्ये प्रकाशित केली. त्यांनी या सुधारित आवृत्ती चे नाव श्री महालक्ष्मी पंचांग दिनदर्शिका असे ठेवले. श्री महालक्ष्मी दिनदर्शिका मध्ये सर्व सण आणि जत्रे यात्रा-जत्रा व्रत इतरांची विस्तृत माहिती दिली आहे. महाराष्ट्रातील सर्व शहरे आणि गावांमधील आयोजित केल्या जाणाऱ्या कार्यक्रम यामध्ये समाविष्ट आहेत. सदाशिव शिर्के यांनी या पंचांग व्यवसायाचा पाच राज्यांमध्ये विस्तार केला आणि मराठी व्यतिरिक्त इतर भाषांमध्ये सुद्धा हे पंचांग प्रकाशित केले. पंचांग छापण्याच्या उद्देशाने त्यांनी छापताना ही स्थापना केला ते आज M/S Premier Printers या नावाने प्रसिद्ध आहे. अलीकडच्या काळात त्यांनी वार्षिक 5 दशलक्ष प्रतीच्या विक्रीचा आकडा ओलांडला आहे.
